Mars Message Madness

MAVEN is going to Mars.

Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN.

You have until the end of the month to go along.

Your name, at least, can be added to a DVD that will be put into Mars orbit on the MAVEN craft.  Add your name to the list here.

If you’re motivated, you can also try to get a haiku of your own creation sent along.

Craft your own original message to Mars! Messages, which must be in the form of a haiku poem, will be voted on by the public; the top three most popular entries will be sent to Mars onboard the MAVEN spacecraft and will be prominently displayed on the MAVEN website.

You can be damn sure I’ll be tossing a haiku into the ring.

ACK ACK ACK ACK ACK

ACK ACK ACK ACK ACK ACK ACK

ACK ACK, ACK ACK ACK!

I might have to do some more work on my verse.  I don’t want to offend any Martians and have them knocking on my door in the middle of the night looking for satisfaction.

I’ll update y’all when I finish my Martian haiku.

By the way, fifty years ago today, Cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman in space and she wouldn’t mind a shot at Mars herself.

  1. Never been there but the brochure looks nice.

  2. I think it would be better if they used Waka poems instead of Haiku! (Haiku poems come out of the middle of a waka poem which is way longer, which means more effort goes into it, which means the whole process would be even MORE competitive!) <–also I know my nerd-light is blinding everyone right now.
