Squatched him? I bearly saw him!

If you haven’t noticed, fringe subjects haven’t been very fringe for a while.  Not that anyone won’t give you some glaring side-eye if you start regaling them with tales of your haunted cable box or your experiences with randy alien visitations.

However, the fringiest stuff is getting a ton of play via “reality” television.  Besides the mass of communities discussing curious topics on the Internet, there are too many shows to count these days.  The airwaves are thick with people searching for bigfoot, aliens, ghosts, crypto creatures and whatever else they can think of.  People tell us the “true” stories of the demons in their new homes, the ghost in their new child and the angels in the septic tank.

The shows can be good, fun late night viewing.  They are far from anything we can take seriously.

These tales have always made it to the newspapers.  You can dig out crazy tales and read them on microfiche (Do they still have that at the library?  Do they still have libraries?).

The media today will run with anything.  I tend to ignore the most egregious items.  Picking those stories apart with a critical eye isn’t even fun.  It’s just too easy.  That is, if there is even enough information to work with, which is rare.

Naturally, when yet another “unidentified animal captured on trail cam” hit the circuit, I ignored it.  It is similar to another infamous trail cam picture.  I ignored it the second time I saw it.  Eventually, I couldn’t take it any more.  And here we are.

We can assume the motion activated trail camera took more than one photo.  Of course, the only picture the public has seen is a bad angle.  This animal will not be America’s Next Top Animal Model.  Camera awareness is a crucial skill.

Call it inconclusive, if you want, just don’t call it definitive evidence.  I know the squatchers like to call everything conclusive, but that’s because most of them are fools.

I’m not going to tell you that’s a bear.  Those who want to see a mysterious unidentified bipedal animal are going to.  There isn’t anything anyone can do to convince them otherwise.  However, if you want to be rational about it, I won’t stop you.

The bears?  They aren’t as nice.
